Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about following this lovable family navigate their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
