Jude Bellingham Must Drop the Petulance to Earn a Star Place Under Tuchel.
Should Bellingham hopes to earn his place into the English strongest team, the smart move to eliminate the unnecessary reactions. His response after noticing that he was being shown after an evening of inconsistency in Tirana fell short of expectations.
"I don’t want to make more out of it but I hold to my words 'conduct is crucial' and consideration for the players who enter the game," stated Tuchel. "Substitutions happen and you need to comply when you're on the field."
Bellingham has to learn. There was no need for a strop. Harry Kane had just put England leading by two in a meaningless fixture, the game had six minutes to go and he, after a below-par performance, was just shown a yellow for bringing down an opponent. It was not a debatable decision. Actually it might have been reckless for the manager to leave Bellingham on because there was a chance he would rule himself out of the opening game of the competition by receiving a another booking.
Turning the Spotlight Upon Himself
Yet Bellingham made himself the center of attention. No one could overlook the young midfielder's annoyance when he clocked that his replacement was ready for a teammate. His arms went up in exasperation and even though he shook Tuchel’s hand after making his way to the touchline there was no doubt that the manager was not impressed.
This represents the hurdle for Bellingham. He praised Marcus Rashford for providing the assist for Harry Kane to score his second of the night, but everything else was harmful to his cause. It's not like arguing was going to change Tuchel’s mind. The German has stressed repeatedly following squad protocols and the value of behaving correctly.
In the Spotlight
He, left out of the team last month, has faced close inspection since coming back to the team recently. Practically he was being assessed and he hasn't helped his case by reacting to his substitution as England rounded off a perfect qualifying campaign by defeating a feisty challenge from Albania.
Tactics and Formation
This implies opinions are divided on how England perform optimally with Bellingham in the team. What we saw was inconclusive. There was experimentation by the coach in the beginning. Under him, England have gained England organization and direction over the past few matches, using a No 6, a central midfielder, an attacking midfielder and specialist wingers, but there was a different feel in this match. Quansah was given his first cap, the midfielder made his first start internationally and the use of John Stones as an auxiliary midfielder created a faint echo to City's historic treble-winning side.
Mixed Performance
Bellingham had ups and downs. He set up a shot for his teammate during the second half but often looked overly eager to shine. There were a lot of hurried and errant passes. An unnecessary confrontation with a rival player in the early stages. The team looked disjointed during most of the second period. One Albania chance followed Bellingham squandered possession. The yellow card was shown after he lost the ball from Broja and brought down Broja.
Depth Makes the Difference
Finally the bench quality was decisive. Tuchel introduced Foden, who appeared better suited to the spot in which Bellingham operated in the opening period, and Saka. Later Saka delivered a corner for Kane to open the scoring. This served as a reminder that dead-ball situations will be crucial in the upcoming tournament.
Bridge Still Stands
Nevertheless, all talk was about Bellingham. The brilliance of Rashford's cross for Kane’s header was somewhat overlooked in the ridiculousness of the player change. At the end, the focus was on him. Tuchel walked up to his side and guided Bellingham in the direction of the travelling England fans. The bond between them is not damaged. Tuchel is not willing to discard the player just yet. Yet whether he is willing to offer him a starring role remains in doubt.
