Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player the Athlete

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.

The organization did not mention the player by name in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
