The original stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their roles in the latest Hunger Games movie, Sunrise on the Reaping.
It has been confirmed that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
A Major Return to Panem
Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Industry whispers indicate their appearance will likely occur in a flash-forward sequence, as the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This marks the sixth installment in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed nearly all the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's story are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several notable actors in pivotal roles:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a earlier incarnation of the calculating President Snow.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
